So, I can’t resist the temptation to tell you about my latest project, which means I’m going to have to trust my friends (only the ones who it needs to be a secret to) NOT to click on the extended entry. If you are one of my friends from college (and your name is Jennifer, Emily or Robin), you cannot click on the extended entry. This may be a present for any one of you peeps, so don’t ruin the surprise.
The rest of you…
My sewing machine has become my friend. I never thought it could be relaxing to sit at the sewing machine because I didn’t understand how it worked so it scared me. But now, I think I’m starting to get the hang of it.
I wanted to make a large-ish project to get my sewing skills up to par to make some of the things that I’ve bought patterns for or that I’ve seen in the Denyse Schmidt Quilts book, so I found this pattern online and rallied together all the old jeans we have in the closet. I figured the pattern consisted of an ice cream bucket top (I’m using a bowl) and a snack box, this lady is speaking my language. I’m making this "quilt" for my friend who is having a baby. Her baby’s room is animals, so I found two different animal prints by the same person to put in the little windows.
I just laid these in here for an example. I need to get some batting because I think I’ll use some to make it softer for the baby. My thought is that this will make a great floor blanket, making extra padding a good thing.
So far, I’ve cut out all the circles and sewn together almost half of them. I’m working it in quarters, and you can see a full quarter below.
Each square is 6", so the full quilt will be 3 feet by 4 feet. It’s definitely not perfect, but I think it will be cute and it’s fun so far to put together. I am learning a lot and am already planning my future sewing projects. I’m not giving up knitting, those updates will come soon.
oh, that is SO cute! 🙂
Ooh a Cathedral Window! I love that pattern. My grandma has one that she’s been working on for years and years, with circles that are about 2 inches across.
I absolutely love the idea of using denim and animal prints! I’ll have to put that on my short list. It’ll be so cute! Can’t wait to see it finished.
It is going to look perfect!
That is really cute, Sarah!! She will LOVE it.
Wow, that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing it…I hope they don’t click on it, yikes!
Awesome! I love it. I’m feeling a little inspiration coming on…
Go you!!!!!!!!!111
I’m sorry you’re not having such a great day – but that quilt is going to be FANTASTIC! I love how the circles and squares create a nice optical illusion. Excellent!
That’s so cute.
That’s so cute! It looks just like catehdral windows. I did a pillow once and it was a bear. The circles method seems a lot more user-friendly.
I am working on a quilt just like yours. well, I guess i should use the term “working” loosely…. I started a quilt just like yours! I am using flannel for the back.
